INTERIM LEADER NIKOLI EDWARDS

About

Nikoli Edwards is a Youth Advocate, Social Activist and Communications Professional. He has directorship experience in both the public and private sectors spanning across areas of public procurement and disposal of public property, financial institution management, educational institution management and youth development. Nikoli was appointed as the youngest Independent Senator in Trinidad and Tobago and the youngest member of the Procurement Board of Trinidad and Tobago. He held the international title of Vice Chairperson Policy, Advocacy and Projects of the Commonwealth Youth Council, representing 1.2 billion young people globally and is the recipient of Trinidad and Tobago’s 2018 National Youth Award for Youth Activism.

Nikoli has served as a Motivational Speaker and Facilitator with the Canadian-based organisation ‘WE Schools’, where he supported students with their volunteerism efforts across the Caribbean. He graduated from the University of the West Indies St. Augustine (UWI), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies - with a Minor in Theatre Arts, and both a Postgraduate Diploma and a Master of Science Degree in Mediation Studies. He is currently pursuing his Bachelors of Law Degree at the UWI.

Nikoli has served in many capacities at the UWI including on the Guild of Students and as a UWI STAT Ambassador. He is affiliated with several Civil Society Organisations locally, regionally and internationally and is Co-Chair of the Trinidad and Tobago Youth Advisory Group of the United Nations Population Fund and the Founder and Executive Chairperson of the Trinidad and Tobago Youth Convention. He is a member of the Family Planning Association of Trinidad and Tobago's Comprehensive Sexuality Education Advisory Committee, Chairman of the San Fernando West Secondary Local School Board and a Director of Western United Credit Union.

Nikoli is an experienced media practitioner, educator and entrepreneur and is passionate about reformation of the Criminal Justice System, Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health Care, education reform and the advancement of Youth across the globe.

Currently he sits as Political Leader of the Progressive Party, also known as the “progressives”, where he hopes the party can provide a viable alternative to governance in T&T.
